One more fitness store, one more disappointment. That is how I felt when I was training for my first marathon. Definitely not a size 10, or 12, or even a 14, I wanted to complete a marathon, a personal goal. So I started looking for clothing to train in but store after store after store let me down. The running clothes for the size 10 female runners were so well designed, so stylish, the color palettes were beautiful. Sadly, there wasn't a single black pair of running pants for me in any of the running stores, much less anything with color or style. I ended up buying men's tops and bottoms to train and run in. It was embarassing.
Many of my fellow marathon trainees had the same frustrating experience. The fact is if you are an active plus size woman, you have little choice in the clothes available to you.
I completed the marathon, one step at a time and during the seven hours it took me to cross the finish line, I had plenty of time to think. As each "typical" woman runner passed me, and many did, (actually all of them did)......I wondered why should she have more choice than I do in the selection of fitness clothing available to us. Wasn't I out here running too? Didn't I train as hard as she did? That is when LILA+ was born.
I hike. I kayak. I cycle. I walk. I run. I play tennis and I am going to practice yoga someday. I am not the only plus size woman who loves the outdoors. I know that there are thousands more women just like me who enjoy, or would like to enjoy, being active. If you are among those women, LILA+ is for you.
It is also for all of us who want to improve our health. Being healthy is the secret to a happy life. LILA+ is here to encourage all plus size women to take part in life.
